01 Keep what carries meaning
A family home may already contain its most important design elements: a carved chair, a brass vessel, a photograph, a particular ritual around a meal. Rather than treating these as accents to be fitted in later, begin the conversation with what the household wants to keep close.
02 Make transitions feel natural
The way a home moves from public to private, from gathering to quiet, can be as important as the look of any single room. Thresholds, filtered light, and a change in material can gently shift the mood without drawing a hard line. The answer depends on the climate, orientation, and life of the people who live there.
03 Contemporary does not mean placeless
A new home can feel current while remaining attentive to its setting. Local stone, established craft practices, familiar proportions, and the realities of heat, rain, and dust can all inform a more grounded design language. That relationship is specific to each place; there is no single style that stands for India.
